Contra Costa Jail Roster
The official current-custody channel is the Contra Costa In-Custody Locator. It is free, does not require a login, and lets a user search by name or booking number. The sheriff's notice on the locator is important: the information shown reflects the most recent information known to the Sheriff's Office, and it can change as the person moves through the judicial process. If a name does not appear, the notice directs users to contact the local jurisdiction for information.
Contra Costa County inmate records also have a short-window report channel. The In-Custody Reports page has a report selector for an Arrest Report or Incident Summary Report. The arrest report is useful for recent booking-log data, including release reasons and warrant-related entries, but the warning in the generated report says logs are removed from the sheriff website about 30 days after posting. That makes the report a recent-arrest tool, not a complete archive.
The confirmed phone fallback for Contra Costa jail custody is Martinez Detention Facility inmate information at (925) 646-4493. Records requests and out-of-custody inmate inquiries route through the Records & ID Unit at recordsinfo@so.cccounty.us or (925) 335-1570, with valid identification and a ten-day response period. No official Contra Costa Sheriff mobile app with inmate roster, warrant, or records-request tools was confirmed, so the documented access channels are web, phone, records request, court, VINE, CDCR, BOP, and ICE.
Use Contra Costa Inmate Search
The Contra Costa County jail roster has two search paths. Name search requires both first and last name, while booking-number search is the better choice when the number is known from a report, court paper, mail format, or deposit record. Common names can return broad results because the results list shows name, year of birth, and a Detail link before the full record opens.
- Open the official In-Custody Locator and read the sheriff notice about changing custody information.
- Choose the Name tab or the Booking Number tab.
- For a name search, enter both first and last name. For an exact search, enter the booking number.
- Submit the search, then open the Detail link to review the booking, bail, facility, court, and charge fields.
- If no record appears, call Martinez inmate information or use Records & ID for an official records fallback.
The official In-Custody Locator page shows the tabbed name and booking-number search options used for Contra Costa County inmate records.
The screenshot matches the research finding that the public form is focused on name and booking-number lookup, not a broad filter list or a confirmed mugshot gallery.
Contra Costa Roster Fields
The roster search fields are simple, but the required field changes by search mode. The name tab requires both names, and the booking-number tab requires the local booking number. The report channel is separate and generates either an Arrest Report or an Incident Summary Report from a dropdown.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search By: Name | Tab | Optional path | Activates first-name and last-name search. |
| Search By: Booking Number | Tab | Optional path | Activates exact booking-number search. |
| Last Name | Text | Yes for name search | Maximum length is 25 characters. |
| First Name | Text | Yes for name search | The page instruction says to enter both names. |
| Booking Number | Text | Yes for booking-number search | Maximum length is 20 characters. |
| Select Report | Dropdown | Yes for reports | Options are Arrest Report and Incident Summary Report. |
Note: Contra Costa does not publish a refresh interval, so avoid assuming that a new booking appears instantly.
Contra Costa Inmate Record Details
Contra Costa County inmate records can look different depending on whether the user opens a person-specific locator Detail result or a multi-entry Arrest Report. The Detail page can show court date, court location, facility, total bail, and charge lines. The Arrest Report can show booking dates, release reasons, case type, warrant fields, physical descriptors, and charges in a log format. Neither inspected public output confirmed a mugshot field or a housing pod field.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Public identity, usually last, first, and sometimes middle name. |
| Booking Number | Local numeric identifier used for exact search, mail, and deposit reference. |
| Date In or Arrest Date | Booking or arrest date and time when populated. |
| Facility Name | Contra Costa jail facility where the person is held. |
| Bail Fields | Total bail, charge bail, warrant bail, or NO BAIL when shown. |

| Physical Descriptors | Race, gender, height, weight, hair, eyes, complexion, or ethnicity depending on output. |
| Case Type | On-view arrest, warrant, Ramey warrant, remand, or commitment. |
Contra Costa Jail Facilities
Most Contra Costa County inmate records start with the Martinez Detention Facility because the sheriff identifies Martinez as the primary intake point for county arrestees. The broader Custody Services system also includes West County Detention Facility, the West County Reentry Treatment and Housing unit, Marsh Creek Detention Facility, and the Custody Alternative Facility. The roster can show the facility name when a person-specific record is available.

Contra Costa Booking Intake
The booking process begins when an arresting agency brings the person into county intake, generally at Martinez Detention Facility. Intake staff create the booking record, assign the booking number, record personal and physical descriptors, and process Live Scan fingerprint submissions. The Records & ID research notes that the Identification Unit runs 24/7 and processes incoming Live Scan arrest submissions from agencies across Contra Costa County.
Classification is a separate step from the public roster. The Classification Unit uses objective screening, interviews, and historical records under California Title 15 section 1050 minimum jail standards to assign safe housing and program access. That assessment can affect whether a person stays at Martinez or later moves to West County, WRTH, or Marsh Creek. Penal Code section 825 supplies the state baseline for a first appearance, requiring an arrested defendant to be brought before a magistrate without unnecessary delay and generally within 48 hours, excluding Sundays and holidays.
Contra Costa Custody Channels
Contra Costa County inmate records are not one statewide database. The county roster covers people arrested, booked, awaiting court, serving local sentences, or otherwise held in county custody. CDCR CIRIS covers sentenced state prisoners after commitment to state prison. BOP and ICE are separate federal systems, and they do not replace a Contra Costa County jail roster search for a local arrestee.
| Custody Type | Where to Search | Use It When |
|---|---|---|
| Current Contra Costa jail custody | In-Custody Locator | The person may be in a county jail now. |
| Recent arrest logs | In-Custody Reports | The user needs recent arrest-report or incident-summary data. |
| Older or official sheriff records | Records & ID Unit | The online result is missing, aged off, or needs an official copy. |
| Sentenced state prison | CDCR CIRIS | The person has been committed to California state prison. |
| Federal custody | BOP inmate locator | The person is in federal custody or serving a federal sentence. |
| Immigration detention | ICE ODLS | The person may be in ICE custody or held after CBP custody. |
Custody distinction: A person can leave the Contra Costa locator after release, transfer, or state-prison commitment. CDCR, BOP, and ICE searches should follow only when the facts point to those systems.
Contra Costa Visiting Rules
After a Contra Costa County inmate record confirms custody and facility location, visiting rules depend on the jail. Social visits are scheduled only by inmates. Visitors may be searched, screened by metal or contraband detection devices, and denied for rule violations, outstanding warrants, recent jail confinement, some supervision status, or false registration information. Adult visitor registration asks for visitor identity, address, date of birth, driver's license number, inmate name, booking number, and relationship.

Contra Costa Mail and Funds
Non-privileged jail mail for Contra Costa inmates goes through Pigeonly Corrections. The address format uses the inmate name, booking number, facility name, facility mail code, and P.O. Box 96777, Las Vegas, NV 89193. Martinez uses code 1117, West County and WRTH use 1118, and Marsh Creek uses 1119. Pigeonly scans non-privileged mail into a digital color copy, prints it for delivery to the facility, and does not return the originals.
Money orders, cashier's checks, and traveler's checks must be made out to Office of the Sheriff and include the inmate name and booking number. Personal checks or cash cause the envelope and contents to be returned. Credit and debit deposits are documented through kiosks in Martinez and West County lobbies, Smart Deposit, and a phone option printed by the sheriff page, but the captured phone number appears incomplete and should be verified with the jail before use.
Note: Confirm custody, booking number, and facility before sending mail, funds, or commissary orders.
